| I have noticed the grip cap on several guns from the late 1800's are plain whereas early 1900's guns have grip caps with Parker Brothers Meriden CT. on them. Approximately what year was plain grip cap discontinued? Last edited on Wed Aug 27th, 2008 03:15 pm by Pete Lester

Pete, it was early in the 1890's
I have a 1893 GH with the later cap and a 1891 GH with the plain cap.

Could one of you gentlemen post a pic. of the plain grip cap, I have a gun that letters, but has a plain grip cap, I always just figured the original had been replaced, there is no chipping or discoloration around the grip cap to indicate it had been redone but I have never seen a plain cap, maybe this is one !

Dom; Thank you; I will take a look and see if I can locate it.I would be pleased if mine was one of the original plain caps instead of a replacement as I suspected..

| Russ, I found the picture of the early style grip cap. You can find it in the Parker Story Vol. 1,Page 104,Fig. 3.27 If you don't have the parker story volumes, You Can find the same picture in theParker Gun Identification and Serialization Book. You can find it on page 41,Fig.D-7. This page shows all three grip caps used by Parker. The early style was made of Hard Blacl Rubber with a raised checkered oval panel. Parker started using the newer style around 1890. Ihave seen several turn of the century Parkers including my VH (1900), with the early style on them If they had a large inventory of the early style grip caps they continued using them especialy on the lower grades. If your cap is the early style, it very well can be an original. I hope this information helps you.
