Edited to add more info.

Sorry folks, I've gone through the forum and looked, but I still have to ask.

I'm new to the whole doubles thing and weak in shotguns period (more knowledgable in S&W revolvers), but have been wanting a good double for a while and just had this drop into my lap.

I'll describe as best as I can.  1907 VHE (with ejectors, correct?) 12 ga, frame size 2, 30" barrels (do not know the choke), gun and bores have no rust (alright, just a pit of patina on the trigger gaurd at wrist, 10% CCH at best (hidden areas rest just dull grey), and the barrels and other blued parts have no finish, but no (other than minor - (1) small nick <1/8" on reciever, don't recall any of notice on barrels) dents nor dings in barrels or other steel.  Barrels "ring true". All SNs match, ejectors work and action appears tight (though a little left of center).  Stock is english straight, but not original stock (I believe the original stock would have been straight as well since trigger gaurd is properly fitted and retains SN).  New(er) stock is of XX-Fancy walnut with wonderful marbling and checkering with a couple of small dings in stock (all checkering good)  Fit is very good including fitting of original butt pad (spur type), but (there's always a but) butt pad and stock have small chip at toe. It looks as though a repro pad is available and no doubt the chip can be repaired.  So fully functional (as far as I can tell), with ejectors, no finish, replaced stock (though very nice looking and properly fitted and inlet - and straight), is it worth picking up for cheap (~$500) and possibly having barrels reblued (RUST BLUED) or even leaving as is for a nice shooter, or is this not much better than a parts gun?  I know, subjective matter, one man's slik purse, another man's sow's ear, but, gotta ask....

Where else can a person find another great shooting , handling and reliable gun that will be around for another 100 years for $500?

FYI extractors lift the shells so you can pull them out. Ejectors lift unfired shells and kick out fired shells individually. Most early V's had extractors. VH with extractors, VHE with ejectors.

Cecil, If the gun is as described and you haven't omitted any defects or changes then for $500 this is a no brainer. Buy it. Try it and if you can't stand the looks rust blue. Post the SN and someone will look it up in the book for the original factory configuration and respond. Erick

Bruce, Eric,

Thanks for the replies.  Eric, I've hopefully described it as best as I can.  If I have ommmitted anything I'm only hurting myself.  Hard to describe,  I don't usually have any interest in anything in this shape, but something about this one grabbed me.  She points well for me, so I guess she's mine.  Thanks again.
