| Hello. Still new to the forum and Parker shotguns. Trying to gather information to purchase my first Parker. I've been advised to look at the VH grade guns because they are most common Parker with fluid steel barrels. This means little to me as I dont know much about the barrels. What all types of barrels were offered on Parkers? What is the best type of barrel to get if I'm going to be shooting this gun for sporting clays? Thanks.

John; I f you go to our home page ,on the lower left you will see a section called Collector Info.Look it all over good there is a wealth of info. there ! If you click on Technical Info. then on the next page at the top right of the page you will see barrel types by grades, this is a good starting point, as far as sporting clays and the best barrels some one else will have to help out with that !

John, Russ has pointed you in the direction I was going to suggest. If you scroll down on the same tech page you will see production #s by barrel type. For fluid steel barrels the barrel steel roll engraving may or may not indicate steels from different steel producers or different quality steels from the same producers. No one knows for a certainty if the marketing of different quality steels was marketing hype or fact.
I did come across a 1910 A&F catalog that offered Trojan steel on another make of gun. Who knows if this is the same Trojan steel used on the Trojan grade Parker. The fact that another maker offered Trojan steel suggests to me that a producer did offer such a distinct product and that perhaps the name didn't originate with the name of a particluar Parker vise product.
In my humble opinion any of the fluid steel Parkers will be suitable for your needs provided they have suitable bbl wall thickness, the choke constrictions and bbl length you prefer for clays. Erick

In my humble opinion, any of the Damascus steel Parkers will be suitable for your needs. Provided they have suitable bbl wall thickness, the choke constrictions and bbl length you prefer for clays. And you shoot the proper loads in these guns.

Darn it can't you guys be quiet! No wonder the price of pattern welded bbl guns keeps going up.
Now go stand in front of a mirror and say, "Beautiful gun. Uh-oh, damascus barrels. These really aren't safe to shoot unless you reload black powder. Black powder is really messy and the smoke makes it impossible for a second shot. They are not safe to shoot with modern powder shells and besides the gun is a 100 years old and the metal has deteriorated so it is especially unsafe." Repeat this until you can say it so convincingly that you believe it yourself.
Actually, John's question was framed in the context of fluid steel bbls and that was what I addressed. If he is looking for a gun to shoot competetively then patterned welded bbls might not be welcome or at some venues. Assuming they are welcome everywhere then damascus and its kissing cousins would be OK in my opinion. Erick

I'm not sure how it is in the 'real world', but when I took my damascus G grade to a local Fairbanks club to informally shoot skeet with a friend, I was told that it would not be allowed at a formal shoot at that range.

Richard, simply do as I do when shooting skeet with Damascus at my club. I wear a chain-mail shark suit and instruct all others on my squad to stand well to my rear. They seem to understand what the consequences would be
